Lantern Years

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 4, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Lantern Years collects, uses, shares, protects, and retains information when you visit our website, create an account, answer guided home questions, share home photos, invite family members, purchase a plan, or use the Lantern Years dashboard.

Lantern Years handles sensitive home and health-related information. We use safeguards designed for that sensitivity and keep our public promises narrow: we use information to provide and support the home planning services you request, not to sell sensitive details.

1. Information we collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Contact and account details, such as name, email address, phone number if provided, password details, account activity, and authentication records.
  • Home planning details, such as guided question answers, room notes, home photos, mobility concerns, falls history if shared, routines, caregiver support, equipment, home layout, and planning priorities.
  • Family and referral details, such as relationship to the resident, invited family members, partner referral information, task notes, and support requests.
  • Payment and order details, such as plan selected, payment status, billing email, subscription status, refunds, and secure payment processor identifiers. We do not intentionally store full payment card numbers in the Lantern Years dashboard.
  • Device and website information, such as IP address, browser, device type, pages viewed, referring page, approximate region, security logs, error logs, and cookie or similar technology information.
  • Messages and support information, such as emails, contact form submissions, dashboard messages, and requests related to privacy, billing, family access, or account help.

2. Health-related and home information

Families may choose to share information connected to physical function, home safety, daily routines, caregiving, mobility, falls, equipment, hospital discharge, cognitive support, or other sensitive context. We use this information to prepare, review, support, and improve the home plan and to determine when remote review may not be appropriate.

We do not ask families to share information that is not needed for the home plan. Please avoid uploading unnecessary documents, medication lists, insurance cards, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, legal documents, or images of people who do not need to be included.

3. How we use information

Lantern Years may use information to:

  • Create, review, update, and support OT-reviewed home plans.
  • Set up accounts, dashboards, family invitations, and task boards.
  • Confirm service area, permission to share information, and whether remote review is the right next step.
  • Process payments, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and billing support.
  • Communicate about plans, photos, account access, security, service updates, and support requests.
  • Protect the service, prevent misuse, investigate errors, maintain audit records, and meet legal obligations.
  • Improve the clarity, safety, accessibility, and reliability of Lantern Years.

We do not use uploaded home photos, information in your home plan, or detailed health-related answers for targeted advertising.

4. How we share information

We share information only when reasonably needed for the service, when you direct us to share it, or when permitted or required by law. This may include:

  • Licensed reviewers and Lantern Years team members who need the information to prepare, review, support, or quality-check a plan.
  • Family members, caregivers, referral partners, or other people you invite or authorize.
  • Service providers for hosting, secure file storage, authentication, payment processing, email delivery, customer support, audit logging, error monitoring, security, analytics, legal, accounting, and similar business support.
  • Professional advisors, regulators, courts, law enforcement, or other parties when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, protect rights, prevent harm, respond to legal process, investigate security issues, or enforce our Terms.
  • A successor organization if Lantern Years is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business change, subject to appropriate protection for sensitive information.

We do not sell home photos, information in your home plan, or consumer health data. We do not share those sensitive details with advertising networks for cross-site behavioral advertising.

5. HIPAA and health privacy posture

Lantern Years is currently a self-pay service. We do not submit electronic insurance claims, eligibility checks, prior authorization requests, claim status requests, or other electronic payer transactions for customers at launch.

HIPAA applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers that transmit health information electronically in connection with certain standard transactions. Self-pay status alone does not decide whether HIPAA applies. If Lantern Years begins covered transactions, contracts as a business associate, or otherwise becomes subject to HIPAA in a new way, we intend to update our notices, safeguards, agreements, and practices as required.

Even where HIPAA may not apply to a specific Lantern Years interaction, we treat home photos and health-related details as sensitive information and use privacy and security practices aligned with health care expectations.

6. Consumer health data

Some information we collect may be considered consumer health data under certain state privacy laws. Examples may include information connected to mobility, falls, caregiver needs, daily living, home safety, disability, health conditions you choose to share, or inferences drawn from that information to provide a requested home plan.

Our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice provides additional details for consumer health data, including rights that may vary by state.

7. Cookies, analytics, and privacy choices

We may use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, protect the service, understand website performance, and improve reliability. Analytics should be configured to avoid sending home photos, plan text, detailed health-related answers, or other sensitive dashboard content.

You can adjust browser settings to block or delete cookies, but some account features may not work correctly. If Lantern Years begins selling or sharing personal information as those terms are defined by privacy laws, we will provide required opt-out choices. At this time, we do not sell personal information or share sensitive home planning information for cross-site behavioral advertising.

8. Data retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide Lantern Years, maintain records, support families, resolve disputes, comply with law, improve safety and quality, prevent misuse, and protect our rights. Retention periods may vary by information type, account status, legal requirements, professional record needs, security needs, and whether a plan has already been prepared or released.

If you request deletion, we will review the request and delete or de-identify information where required and reasonably possible. We may retain certain records when needed for legal, security, billing, professional, dispute, fraud-prevention, or safety reasons.

9. Security

Lantern Years uses administrative, technical, and physical safeguards intended to protect sensitive information. These may include authenticated account access, role-based access, private file handling, signed upload and access links, encryption in transit, encryption at rest where supported by our providers, logging, backup practices, vendor review, and limited team access to sensitive content.

No online service can guarantee perfect security. You can help by using a strong password, protecting your email account, signing out on shared devices, inviting only trusted people, and telling us promptly if you believe information was accessed without permission.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, consent withdrawal, appeal, or information about how certain data is shared. California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and be free from discrimination for exercising privacy rights.

To make a privacy request, email contact@lanternyears.com. We may need to verify your identity and authority before acting on a request, especially where the account includes another person's home or health-related information.

11. Children and dependent adults

Lantern Years is intended for adults. We do not knowingly allow children under 18 to create accounts. Adults may share information about a dependent adult or another person only when they have permission or legal authority to do so.

If you believe information was shared without proper permission, contact us at contact@lanternyears.com so we can review access and next steps.

12. Breach notification

If we learn of a security incident involving personal information or consumer health data, we will investigate and provide notices required by applicable law. Depending on the circumstances, this may include notice to affected individuals, regulators, or other parties.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this Privacy Policy as Lantern Years, our service providers, legal requirements, and privacy practices change. The updated policy will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice or request consent when required.

Questions, requests, or concerns about privacy can be sent to contact@lanternyears.com.
